Brian the door guy made his fourth visit to our project today. He’s providing doors for the new addition and also replacing all of the doors in the rest of the house. Now that framing for the addition is completed, Brian came by to make final measurements.

The addition includes two pocket doors and a few conventional doors. Throughout the rest of the house we are replacing a large sliding exterior door, several conventional doors, and a few closet doors. One of the new closet doors will be a large barn door on rails for Lynda’s quilt studio.

Part of the universal design philosophy includes large door openings that can accommodate wheelchairs and scooters. Many home builders now routinely install such wider doors as standard equipment in all new construction. We are fortunate that our home was ahead of its time when built in 1957. The original owners at the time specified extra wide doors to make the home accessible for a member of their family.
