It was all about drywall again today. The painter is coming next week, and the drywall needs to be finished before the paint goes on.

The painter will start with the ceilings, then progress to the walls.

We made a last-minute change in the wall color for the addition. We originally selected “Biscuit,” but we have now switched to a whiter color called “Snowbound” which we are also using in Lynda’s quilt studio. There should be a movie — or possibly a book — about the scandalous number of different “white” paint colors. 50 Shades of White, maybe?

After running our dehumidifier all night, the joint compound was dry and ready for sanding. Then the guys added the second coat.

A dehumidifier is an essential tool.

The second coat of joint compound is thicker than the first, so we’ll be running the dehumidifier again tonight.

There was a minor setback on the plumbing front when we noticed a small amount of water on the floor of the guest bathroom. It turns out that yesterday’s plumbing work to install the new sillcock caused a crack in the plumbing for the toilet. Fortunately, our project manager was on hand and used his plumbing skills to fix the leak.

This is the second time during the project that disturbing the decades’ old plumbing has caused a leak. Those old copper pipes and joints are fragile. A word to the wise: avoid touching old plumbing.

On a happier note, we are already enjoying the new sliding door in the family room. The door has built-in blinds between the layers of glass, and we are already making good use of this feature.

We just discovered that we neglected to specify a paint color for the quilt studio and guest bathroom. White seems like a good color, so we began looking at “white” paint samples in the Sherwin-Williams range. There are a staggering number of choices! The top row of colors below are all some shade of white, and those are just a fraction of the possibilities.

Which is the correct color of "white?"

Which is the correct color of “white?”

We finally chose a color called “Snowbound,” but I couldn’t tell you exactly why.
