The HVAC guys were back again, and they were kind enough to provide us with some photos of their work in the attic.

The main trunk duct carries conditioned air from the furnace to the rest of the house.  The trunk is made from a rigid fiberglass duct board which by itself has some insulating properties. Extra insulation is wrapped around the trunk when it is installed.

The view on the left below shows the round connectors for the flexible fiberglass ducts that go to individual ceiling registers. In the background is part of the cold air return system.

Meanwhile, back in the living quarters, flexible fiberglass ducts are connected to ceiling registers.

We greatly appreciate the hard work by the HVAC guys. The conditions are miserable in the attic. Outside temperatures topped 90° this week, so it has to be 110–120° in the attic. THANK YOU!

Today was all about HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) again. Ceiling-mounted registers have now been installed in every room of the old part of the house except for my office. There is lots of new ducting in the attic (sorry, no pictures).

After adding the new register to my office tomorrow, the crew will start installing ductwork and registers in the new addition. Working in the addition will no doubt be a little easier on the guys than working in our dark, dusty, and sweltering attic to retrofit the old part of the house.

Completion of the HVAC distribution system will represent a milestone in our project. I’m guessing at least two more days of work will be required. We’ll be so happy when the old cellulose insulation stops falling from the ceiling!
